Men’s Rights man of the year 2019: Santa Claus! Or, rather – the host of hard-working men who play him at every mall, shopping centre, town square, and hospital.
This year, we are honouring these anonymous men who give back to the community in a wonderful and positive way. Christmas is a celebration that invites everyone to spend time together, give gifts, and bond. People across the world put aside their differences and celebrate together. And a perennial part of that is the dedicated men who go out wearing Santa Claus outfits to bring warmth and cheer to small children and their parents.
This year we are here to stand up and count these men who dress up to support and honour the spirit of the season. They put on scratchy beards and dress up in red; sit people on their knee, and give them presents; sing them songs of good cheer, and comfort many, many sick lonely and dying children. It’s often quite expensive to do so. Good beards cost a lot – especially for firemen, army men, and police officers who can’t have beards. You need just the right sort or the kids will pluck it right off your face! Good suits likewise can cost hundreds. Some are supplied by the malls, but for many professional Santas it’s a major expense to ensure they look just right.
It’s A Hard Job
Many are professionally trained. Noerr Programs Corporation does background checks and ensures they have enough cheer to be great Santas. Those people whose laps you sit in have done a lot of work to be good enough. Some learn sign language or Spanish so they can better to speak to the many kids who they see. They learn how to handle difficult questions.
It’s a difficult job physically. Lifting up kids onto your knee takes a lot of muscular strength, and is pretty repetitive – especially for a man old enough to play Santa. A typical kid weighs ten to thirty kilos, and doing hundreds of reps of that weight is quite a strain on Santas. Many are sadly sick, and Santas risk getting more than a cold.
It’s a hard job mentally as well. They have to smile and joke for every ill child on a chemo drip, be upbeat for evry a party, and go far from their home town so no one recognizes them. They have to drive around from place to place and work long hours in Christmas season, when others are with their families. They can’t break character – ever – and so many need to be Santa all the time they’re in public to keep up the Christmas magic.
It’s An Important Job
Especially at this time of year. A lot of kids sadly are missing fathers; or have fathers who have to work hard and long hours away from home to support their families. These Santas give up time, health, and energy so those kids who need it can have a bit of extra love to help them get through the year.
Many fathers work as Santa unpaid. They work all year long and hard hours to help supply that Christmas joy for their children, write notes and replies to letters, and wrap many a present. They are heroes as well, helping to better their family with their self sacrifice.
Many men work in their communities in schools, hospitals, and other places to bring that Christmas joy to the masses. They freely work in public to help the world be a better, more Christmas filled place.
It’s a job increasingly under attack. In our endlessly fearful modern world, many see picking up a child or being close to a child as evil. As part of this MeToo era, Santa Claus is increasingly under attack as anti woke, as dangerous. In this anti male era, any man who associates with children is feared.
That’s why this post is about giving a shout out to all the men who are Santa Claus. They do good, hard work, and make life much better for children. Next time you see one you should show your appreciation and care – even if it’s just with a smile and a thanks. There’s a real man behind the suit, and that man deserves your respect and needs your support. There are hard working fathers out there across the world working to ensure good Christmas for all, and they need your thanks.
