A researcher at University of Central Lancashire is interested in interviewing individuals who have suffered Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). Thomas is looking for volunteers to talk to him (or a female researcher) about strategies used to maintain safety in past abusive relationships. The interview explores victimization and thus focuses on your victimization experiences only, from the perspective of IPV involving both male and female victims. Anyone who has experienced relationship abuse, of any kind, may take part, and your anonymity is also assured. Your name will not be mentioned in any of the write-ups of the findings.
You will not be asked specific questions about previous abuse. Only the length of the previous abusive relationship and the type of abuse suffered, and some demographic questions. The amount of information about your experiences you share is completely up to you.
Participation in this study is entirely voluntary, and you can withdraw at any time while completing the interview. If at any time you decide to withdraw, you can do so by notifying your interviewer. The overall goal of the study is to develop an understanding of effective safety strategies for victims of Intimate Partner Violence. That means you will be having a real world effect by taking part!
However, that means the study is unable to accept participants who are currently in an abusive relationship. If the abuse itself has ended, or the relationship has, then you are eligible to take part.

More About The Study
The study is being conducted as part of a PhD Psychology course, and the basic aim is to explore how victim’s protect themselves and others (for example their children and pets) while in violent or abusive relationships. It also aims to explore why victims employ these strategies and behaviours. If you need more in-depth info about the study, here is their methodology page.
After providing your consent, you will be asked a few basic questions about your age, sexual identification, sexual orientation, type of victimisation suffered (e.g. physical, emotional, financial etc…) and duration of abusive relationship. The interview can be completed anonymously, if required, and can be completed with a male or female interviewer.
